Lomega wins 5th straight Canton title
Abby Swart earned most valuable player honors as Lomega maintained its dominance at the Canton Invitational.
Class B’s fourth-ranked Lady Raiders won the tournament for the fifth straight year Saturday with a 68-55 victory over No. 12 Arnett.
It’s the fourth consecutive year for Lomega to defeat Arnett in the championship game.
A big first half vaulted Lomega to its latest title.
The Lady Raiders made four 3-pointers in each of the first two quarters as they built up a 45-24 lead.
Swart made three of them in that first half.
She was joined by Kate Myers in scoring eight during the first quarter that saw Lomega build a 23-13 advantage.
Freshman Bree Yost made two treys in the second quarter as part of a 22-11 run.
Myers eventually led the team with 16 points.
Swart scored 15 while Monse Rivera added 11.
Arnett was led by Allie Tune’s 20 points. The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Lady Wildcats.
Swart led a balanced attack in Friday’s 54-29 win over Canton in the semifinals.
She made three 3-pointers and scored 13 points.
Aliana Lawson added 12 and Rivera nine.
As in the title game, Lomega notched 10 3-pointers as a team.
Lawson, Myers and Rivera joined Swart on the all-tournament team.
Lomega is now 8-1 and has won eight straight games.
Lomega didn’t play in the Canton tournament in 2018, but won titles there in 2015, 2016 and 2017.
