KHS takes care of Broncho business
Jared Reese sat back in his chair, leaned over to Danny Green and made the most random of observations.
“I wonder if Darrell Daugherty knows his phone’s light is on.”
Reese happened to be peering across the APB floor because he was nearly in relaxation mode.
The game on the court directly in front of him had long been decided.
The Kingfisher Yellowjackets dominated another foe Tuesday as they handed No. 13 Bethany a 51-35 defeat.
The Jackets led 25-7 at the half and were never tested as they won for the 76th straight time on their home court.
The Bronchos scored the first point of the game on a free throw, but KHS answered with 14 straight, eight of them by Caden Kitchens.
Bethany didn’t get its first field goal until less than a minute remained in a quarter.
The visitors were within 14-5 for a portion of the second quarter before Xavier Ridenour knocked down two straight 3-pointers and Drake Friesen followed with another.
The Jackets weren’t pushed again.
Ridenour was 4 of 6 from 3-point range and led all scorers with 19 points.
Kitchens scored 14 and led the team with five rebounds and four assists.
Maddox Mecklenburg added nine points and three assists.
He had a 3-pointer in the game as the Jackets shot 40 percent from long range. That helped loosen up the inside, where KHS made 12 of 16 (75 percent) attempts.
The Bronchos (8-5) shot 42 percent overall, but was just 3 of 15 (20 percent) from beyond the arc.
Taylor Heim led the Bronchos with nine points.
Kingfisher was 11-2 overall with its sixth straight win. The Jackets moved to 6-0 in the Western Conference.
