Jackets finish fifth at Kingfisher Invitational
Cashion, Hennessey squads also rack up points
Kingfisher didn’t have an individual champ, but landed two in the finals at last weekend’s Kingfisher High School Invitational wrestling tournament. Dawson Garvin was
Dawson Garvin was runner-up at 120 pounds and Rylee Toepfer repeated the effort at 126 pounds.
They led KHS to a fifthplace finish in the team standings. Pawnee won the team
Pawnee won the team title with 243 points. Yukon was second with 173 and Tonkawa third with 140. Enid’s 113 points were

The Eagles, whose program, like Cashion’s is still in its infant stages, saw Westyn Hopkins lead the way with a fourth-place finish at 120.
Cameron Griffin was fifth at 195 and Keigen Crites fifth at 285. Hennessey also got points out of Zack Tillman’s sixth-place finish at 170 pounds.
Duran went 2-1 in his pool matches, then won two bracket matches to earn a spot against Enid’s Blake Fuksa in the finals.
Fuksa pulled out a pin at the 4:48 mark to win gold.
Also for Cashion, Jaiden Miller was fourth at 138 while Paul Robles (126), Dealen Stockton (152) and Matthew Stockton (220) were fifth at their respective weights.
Garvin was 3-0 in his pool matches, including wins over KHS teammates Conner Askey and Gant Browning.
Browning won his quarterfinal match before facing Pawnee’s Grady Mittasch in the semifinals. Mittasch pinned Brown
Mittasch pinned Browning in 49 seconds to put himself in the finals against Garvin.
Garvin had pinned each of his bracket foes in the first round, but Mittasch was able to earn a title match fall at 1:31. Browning bounced back
Browning bounced back to take third place by pinning Hopkins in their consolation match. Askey eventually placed

Toepfer was 2-1 in pool matches he wrestled (he earned a forfeit in one and a bye in another). The loss was 6-2 to Paw

Toepfer then came back to pin Enid’s Dane Fish and outlast Clinton’s Kyran Martinez 8-6 to earn a rematch against Novotny in the title bout.
Novotny, again, was a little too much as he earned a 4-0 victory.
Grayson Bromlow took third for the Jackets at 182. He lost a 5-0 decision to

Long had defeated Robert Barnett, also of Kingfisher, with a first-round fall in the quarterfinals.
He was then pinned by Tonkawa’s Luke Shepherd in the semifinals.
Braxton Shellstrom and Crites met up in the quarterfinal round of the heavyweight bracket.
Shellstrom pinned the Hennessey senior in 2:53, but was then beaten by Pawnee’s Tyler Walker in the semifinals.
Shellstrom eventually took fourth in the bracket.
Also for KHS, Mason Alig was 2-2 in his bracket matches to take fifth at 170.
