KHS senior scores 30 points in 10 minutes as Lady Jackets win by 50

It doesn’t get much more brown than Elk City’s Pioneer Center.

The court. The chairs. The walls. The ceiling.

It’s all brown and brings with it a certain level of dreariness when one walks into the otherwise beautiful facility.

But then Allison Green lit the place up.

Green caught fire like few before her in a Kingfisher uniform as she led the Lady Jackets to an 83-33 road win on Friday.

The amazing part isn’t that Green scored 30 points: It’s how quickly she got them.

When Elk City coach Sean Hamm was forced to call his third timeout of the game with 6:18 left in the second quarter, his Elkettes trailed KHS 46-4.

Green had just prompted the timeout with her seventh 3-pointer of the game.

That put her at 30 points in just 7:42 of game time.

By that point, Green hadn’t missed a field goal. Her lone “miscue” was a missed free throw.

Her scoring outburst wasn’t shocking to coach Taylor Young.

“Allison coming out shooting the ball like she did Friday night did not surprise me at all because she is always in the gym,” Young said.

“Her persistent effort and energy to get better and find ways to improve her game speaks volumes and people are finally starting to see her ‘complete game.’

“Not only can she shoot the ball, but she has a wide skill set that hasn’t been utilized until now.”

Young pointed out Green has been scoring consistently off of steals, getting to the foul line, finishing around the rim and occasionally in the post.

Despite the uptick in variety, Green’s 3-point numbers this season have been staggering.

She’s 24 of 43 (55.8 percent) for the season. Those numbers are better than inside the arc, where she shoots 52 percent (14 of 27).All of it was on display at Elk City, especially in the first quarter.

Kingfisher’s play coaxed Hamm into calling timeouts when the Lady Jackets were up 8-0 less than two minutes into it and then again 19-2 with 3:27 left in the quarter.

The Elkettes had trouble managing to even get off a field goal attempt as Kingfisher’s pressure forced turnover after turnover.

And they also struggled to cover Green.

The senior made six 3-pointers and had 25 points by the end of the quarter.

Her video game-like shooting overshadowed a stellar half by fellow senior Rayland Garner.

Garner scored eight points in each of the first two quarters and had single-handedly outscored Elk City 16-11 by halftime.

After the torrid start, Green cooled off.

She missed her final two shots of the first half and then saw limited action the rest of the game, though KHS continued to build on its sizable lead.

By game’s end the Lady Jackets had forced 23 turnovers and scored 27 points off of them.

They shot 60.5 percent overall, including 10 of 18 (56 percent) from 3-point range.

Garner finished with 17 points in just 16 minutes.

Peyton Walker and Addy Matthews scored six apiece as 10 different Lady Jackets scored.

Green added five rebounds, five steals and had five more deflections for KHS as the Lady Jackets moved to 6-1 on the season and moved up to No. 8 in this week’s 4A rankings.

“She is a valuable piece in our program,” Young said of Green. “Not only because of her skill and ability, but more importantly the type of high character person she is.”
