Dover rally not quite enough against C-D
Dover’s comeback attempt came up short Saturday and it saw the Lady Longhorns’ win streak come to an end.
Covington-Douglas held off the Lady Longhorns late to preserve the 4641 road win.
The Lady Wildcats got up 12 points by the end of the first quarter.
Dover commenced to outscore Covington-Douglas in each of the final three quarters, but not by enough to overtake the lead.
It included a 12-7 run in the third quarter where Hope Caldwell scored all eight of her points.
That quarter pulled Dover within six points, but the visitors were largely able to keep pace in the fourth.
That was due mostly to Elli Garcia, who scored 10 of her team’s 13 points in the final quarter. She ended her night with a game-high 21 points.
Katleyn Harviston scored 10 of her 15 points in the second half.
Karlee Harviston added 13 points.
Dover had won two in a row entering the game. The Lady Longhorns are now 4-8.
Wildcats stay unbeaten with win at Dover
Covington-Douglas came to Dover on Saturday with an undefeated record.
And the Wildcats also left with one.
Class A’s 17th-ranked team got a balanced scoring attack to hold off the upset-minded Longhorns 57-42.
Three Wildcats scored in double figures, led by Parker Smith’s 19 points.
He scored 13 in the second half as the team extended what was an eight-point lead at the break.
Weston Carl added another 14 points. Carl and Smith combined for 15 points in the fourth quarter.
They helped offset Joriaun Caldwell’s night.
Dover’s leading scorer poured in 23 points, but he was limited to six in the second half.
Kolten Shaw added nine points for the Longhorns and Kasen Harviston six.
Dover was 6-7 after the defeat.
