Lady Jackets drop 3rd straight game
Continued scoring woes led to a third straight loss for the Kingfisher girls basketball team.
The Lady Jackets had just 10 first-half points and couldn’t overcome a double-digit deficit in a 34-33 loss last Friday at Clinton.
KHS trailed by 13 points midway through the third quarter, cut it to three points by the end of the frame and had multiple possessions to take the lead while trailing by a point near the game’s end.
But each time Kingfisher was denied as the Lady Reds pulled off the Western Athletic Conference contest
While Kingfisher forced 20 turnovers, it had 29 of its own. Clinton also out-rebounded the Lady Jackets 32-17.
That included 11 offensive rebounds, which the Lady Reds turned into 10 second-chance points.
Six Lady Jackets scored, but only one reached double figures.
Senior Britt Taylor scored 12 points.
She made one 3-pointer and Allison Green a pair of them during Kingfisher’s surge in the latter portion of the third quarter.
Despite having a chance to win, Kingfisher was denied late.
Once came when an Emily Myers offering near the rim came short after she drove the baseline.
What followed was a series of turnovers, one by Kingfisher and two by Clinton, that eventually gave the Lady Jackets the ball on their end of the court, but with just .3 showing on the clock.
Green was forced to quickly heave a desperation 3-pointer that missed to the right as the buzzer sounded.
Green scored six points while Ally Stephenson added five.
The loss dropped Kingfisher’s record to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
