S. David Hopper, 82, formerly of Kingfisher, entered his eternal rest on Aug. 20, 2024, in Pittsburgh, Pa. David was born in Enid on March 20, 1942. He grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School in 1961. After high school, David attended Phillips University until his education was interrupted when the U.S. Army called him to serve during the Vietnam War.

Upon his discharge from the Army, David went to work for the Rock Island Railroad. While working full-time for the railroad, David simultaneously pursued a law degree at Oklahoma City University, earning his juris doctor in 1973.

Upon receiving his law degree, David began practicing law in Watonga. He first served as an assistant district attorney in Blaine County prior to establishing a private legal practice which he continued for 50 years.

David lived a life of dedication and service to others, exemplifying the rank he earned of Eagle Scout.

Even while practicing law, he many times received nothing more in return for his services than the gratitude of those he served.

David was a quiet, thoughtful man. He found peace and happiness with the simple pleasures in life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors.

He was known to bring wild game he harvested to Thanksgiving. David was also an avid OSU fan.

David was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a sister.

He is survived by daughters Andrea (Jeremy) Bowers and Anita Hopper; son David (Laura) Hopper; sisters Joy (John) Blakley and Mary Beth (Bert) Hinderliter; brother Terry (Judy) Hopper; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service, to honor David’s legacy will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16,at the First Christian Church in Kingfisher with Pastor Gene Massey officiating and Wilkinson Mortuary handling the arrangements.

The burial will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid.
