Fern Marie Trent

Fern Marie Trent was born in 1926 in McLoud to Daney and Flora Newton and passed away Monday, Nov. 8, 2021.

She was fifth of 11 children and grew up working on the family farm with her other brothers and sisters.

She graduated from McLoud High School.

During World War II, she worked at Tinker Field.

In 1947, Fern married Fred Ray Trent in Independence, Kan. They had three children, Jesse Leo, Wanda Jane and Jerold Fred.

She was a stay-at-home mom until her children were in school and then she pursued a career as a beautician, graduating from beauty school in Ponca City.

She worked for many years at a salon in Fairfax and retired from a shop in Bristow in 1983.

She was an avid seamstress, making most of her clothes along with making numerous quilts for her loved ones.

While living in Fairfax she also made cheerleader skirts for the high school girls, custom making them to fit each girl.

She was well-known for always having a new dessert that she had tried out.

She enjoyed having company and cooking for them. She loved to make pecan pies, peanut brittle and hot rolls.

She and her husband spent their retirement years going to Lake Eufaula, camping in their trailer and fishing from their boat. Although she was deathly afraid of the water, she would suit up in her hat and lifejacket and get on board. She loved to go fishing with Fred.

She was an OSU Cowboys fan and would always follow them on TV.

She is survived by her three children: J.L. and wife Kay Trent, Wanda Jane Pierce, and Jerold and wife Sherry Trent; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud of and had their pictures where she could see them every day.

She enjoyed getting to visit with them whenever they came to see her. She was also close to her many nieces and nephews who lived in Kingfisher.

People will remember Aunt Marie’s willingness to help fix and mend their clothes, her cooking expertise and loving and caring nature.

During the years after her husband passed, she became an avid quilter making many quilts for family members. She would always put a lot of love into each quilt.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at Sanders Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Kingfisher Cemetery.
