Hinton too much for Crescent
Crescent’s streak of gut-wrenching defeats came to an end last week.
The losing streak, however, did not.
Hinton dominated the second half Friday night to run away with a 41-6 home win over the Tigers.
The loss was Crescent’s fifth straight as the Tigers were eliminated from playoff contention.
They’ll host Cashion in their final game of the 2021 campaign this Friday.
Crescent’s last three losses came by a total of nine points and the one with the largest margin in points (34-28 against OCA) was in overtime.
But the Comets made sure there were no dramatics in this one.
Hinton racked up 303 yards - all on the ground
- while limiting Crescent to 140.
Of that, 96 came on the ground.
Luke Descher ran for 70 yards on 14 attempts. Tayon Johnson was limited to 15 yards on seven carries.
Kade Varner was 6 of 15 through the air for 44 yards.
Ian Lewis caught three of those passes for 22 yards and Ethan Ryans two more for 21.
Mason Payne tallied 13 total tackles for the Tigers while Johnson managed 10.
Ryan Henley added nine tackles and Descher seven.
But Crescent struggled to slow down the Comet rushing attack.
Hinton got 146 yards on 19 carries from Jake Wright.
His 13-yard run with 8:27 to play in the second quarter gave the Comets a 14-0 lead.
The Tigers answered back with 5:39 to play in the half when Johnson scored on a 3-yard run.
But Hinton managed to push its lead to 21-6 before halftime and that TD was the start of 27 straight points for the Comets.
Levi Taylor added 118 yards on 19 carries for Hinton. He scored on runs of 13, 2 and 1 yards. Wright ended his night with two TDs.
Hinton improved to 5-3 overall and 1-3 in District A-3. The Comets are tied with Watonga for fourth place. Those two play in Week 10 for the final playoff spot.
Crescent enters the final week 3-6 overall and 0-4 in A-3.
