Boy, Scout can run
KMS 8th grader wins JH All-Star meet, leads team to 2nd
In a sense, it was a perfect season for Scout Snodgrass.
The Kingfisher eighth grader dominated the field Thursday to win the Class 4A girls race at the Junior High All-Star Cross Country Championships at the Chickasha Sports Complex.
The event is the equivalent of the state championship at the junior high level.
And nobody in the state was faster than Snodgrass.
She ran the 2,400 meter course in 9:00.33, beating runner-up Jaden Bradley of Weatherford by 18-plus seconds.
Her performance helped the Lady Jackets to a runner-up finish in the team race.
Bolstered by three other top-20 finishes, Kingfisher had 71 total points.
Plainview won the meet with 53.
Harrah was third with 90.
KMS saw Lily Lunsford crack the top-10 and set a new PR with a time of 9:38.24. She took ninth in a race that featured 87 runners.
Kinley Taylor was 13th in 9:48.66 while Harper Evans was 20th overall, but 19th in score placing, in 10:02.90.
Fifth grader Hinsley Brodrick finished up Kingfisher’s scoring as she crossed the line 32nd (29th) in 10:34.67.
Snodgrass, meanwhile, won every race she ran this season.
She picked up individual victories at races in Weatherford, Kingfisher, Watonga, Hennessey, OBA/Chisholm and again at Watonga prior to Thursday’s meet.
Her finish was 14 seconds faster than the 2A champion’s time and 17 seconds faster than the 3A champion.
The Kingfisher boys didn’t send a team, but Rhett Schlegel ran individually and placed 13th.
In Class 2A girls, Hennessey was fourth as a team with 117 points.
The Lady Eagles were led by Tayler Franklin’s seventh-place finish.
Jocelyn Matousek was 11th (10th).
Claire Myers ran individually for Lomega and was 11th overall.
Brok Cooper paced the Hennessey boys as he was 25th (23rd) in that race.
