Lady Jackets dominate field at Hennessey meet
A Kingfisher team at full strength meant no shot for the rest of the field in the eighth annual Mike Driskill Turkey Creek Classic cross country meet.
The Lady Jackets scored a minuscule 27 points as all five scoring runners completed the 3,200 Turkey Creek Golf Course track in eighth place or better.
Seven KHS runners medaled as the group was led by sophomore Chesni Newkirk.
She crossed the tape in 13:41, good for third place overall and one spot better than freshman teammate Liberty Starr.
Starr’s finish time was 13:46.
Right behind Starr was Jacee Mueggenborg. She was the first of three straight seniors to finish for the Lady Jackets as Katon Lunsford was seventh and Ally Stephenson eighth.
Kingfisher’s total put it well ahead of runner-up Alva’s 70 points. Cherokee was third with 89.
Also medaling for the Lady Jackets were Emmy Lunsford and Zaylynn Lopez.
Hennessey took fifth with 106 points and had two Lady Eagles medal (top 25).
Taryn Jech was 11th overall, but ninth in scoring while Jamie Torres was two places behind her.
Addison McCracken of Cashion finished two runners behind Torres. She was the only Cashion runner in the field.
The high school boys covered 5 kilometers in their race and Kingfisher’s Conner Hine was the top local finisher.
The senior was fourth in 18:15.
Conner Askey took 12th for the Jackets and Coleman Gilles 35th.
KHS was fifth in the team standings with 132 points.
Timberlake won the meet with 59 as it edged the OKC Knights’ 62.
Chisholm was third with 79.
KHS was the only local school with a full team in the boys race.
Gage Bedick of Cashion ran 11th to top other local runners.
Kingfisher’s Scout Snodgrass continued her dominance in junior high girls races.
The eighth grader was one of four Lady Jackets to medal as she took first in the mile race (no times were provided for the junior high girls race).
Lily Lunsford was fifth (fourth in scoring), Harper Evans ninth (eighth) and Kinley Taylor 13th (12th).
That group helped Kingfisher to the team title.
Kingfisher tallied just 44 points. Alva was second with 56.
Hennessey took third with 104 and was led by Tayler Franklin’s seventh-place (sixth) finish.
Jocelyn Matousek was 10th (ninth) and Emma Sipe 18th (15th) for the Lady Eagles.
In the junior high boys race, Hennessey’s Garbiel Roman was tops among Hennessey runners with his 13th place finish.
Hennessey was fifth in the team standings.
Kingfisher’s Rhett Schlegel led all local runners as he finished in eighth place.
