Crescent wins regional; KHS, Cashion qualify for cheer state
All three local competitive cheer teams have earned the right to compete this weekend at state.
Crescent was crowned a Class 2A regional champion last weekend at its competition in Chickasha.
Cashion was third in that same regional.
Meanwhile, Kingfisher was fifth in its Class 4A regional at Stroud.
Crescent automatically qualified for state while Cashion and Kingfisher both scored enough points to punch their respective tickets.
State for all classes is Saturday, Sept. 25, at the UMAC on the campus of Union High School in Tulsa.
Cashion will perform at 10:15 a.m.
Crescent will perform at 10:35 a.m. and will be the last of seven 2A teams to compete.
KHS is one of 10 4A teams to qualify and will perform its routine at 12:45 p.m.
For teams that don’t win a regional title and automatically qualify, they must have scored at least 225 points, which is an average of 75 per judge for three of the five judges (highest and lowest scores are dropped).
Kingfisher tallied 247 points at the regional.
Its lowest score was 80.6 and highest was 85.
KHS finished third at last year’s state competition.
Bristow won the regional crown with 272.4.
Stigler was runner-up with 267.2, Sallisaw third with 264 and Inola fourth with 253.6.
Crescent scored 242.8 points for its performance.
Haworth was the runner-up with 231 and Cashion managed 230 points.
Crescent was third at last year’s state cheer competition, but also won the state Game Day cheer competition.
Cashion was fifth at state a year ago.
