Lady Jackets snap softball skid by beating Waukomis

A seven-game losing streak was put to a halt Thursday night in Kingfisher.
The Lady Jackets’ softball team downed Waukomis 9-1 at home to put an end to a winless drought that dated back to Sept. 4.
Three different KHS players drove in two runs apiece and Merrin Evans put together a strong performance in the circle as the team improved to 13-17.
The win was part of a three-way that saw KHS lose 8-1 to Pioneer.
Pioneer, which is 31-1 on the season, also beat Waukomis 10-0.
Waukomis scored a run in the top of the third to pull within 3-1 of Kingfisher.
The Lady Jackets had built their early lead thanks to a two-run bomb by Taylor Mills in the second and an Addyson Willson RBI single in the first.
The Lady Jackets responded with four runs in the bottom half of the fourth.
A bases loaded walk by Kynli Boeckman was followed by a two-run single off Emma Lukasek’s bat.
Siera Stitt then delivered an RBI double to push Kingfisher’s lead to 7-1.
Evans added to it in the fourth with a two-run single.
Evans got the win by allowing just three hits.
She struck out three and only walked one in her five innings of work.
She also finished with two RBIs and a run scored.
Lukasek and Mills also had two RBIs each.
Willson collected two hits for KHS.
Kingfisher managed 12 hits against Pioneer, but stranded 10 runners on base.
Mya Dewberry’s fifth-inning solo homer was the only run the Lady Jackets could muster.
The hit was Dewberry’s third of the game as she had a single in the first and a double in the third.
Willson also put together three hits while Stitt and Mills had two each.
KHS also committed four errors in the contest.
Dick surrendered eight runs over seven innings, but only two were earned.
She struck out three batters without a walk.
The Lady Jackets were dealt a pair of District 4A-4 losses Tuesday at Elgin.
The Lady Owls emerged with wins of 10-0 and 8-5.
Dick had two of Kingfisher’s four hits in the shutout loss.
The Lady Jackets got off to a quick start in the nightcap.
Mya Dewberry scored Dick with a single in the bottom of the first.
Three batters later, Lukasek’s fielder’s choice pushed Willson and Dewberry home for a 3-1 lead.
However, the momentum didn’t stick as Elgin’s Hannah Endicott blasted a grand slam in the top of the second to give her team the lead for good.
Mills homered in the second and Gentry Taylor had an RBI single in the third to keep KHS in it.
Mills ended her night with three hits.
Stitt, Dewberry and Dick had two apiece.
