Kingfisher’s Braxton Mecklenburg has earned a spot in the AAU Track and Field Junior Olympic Games.
Mecklenburg took second place last weekend in the high jump at the AAU Region 16 National Qualifier at Bentonville West High School in Arkansas.
His finish put him in the national event, which will take place July 31-Aug. 7 at Humble, Texas.
Mecklenburg, who will be a senior this fall at KHS, cleared 1.88 meters (just under 6 feet, 2 inches) during the regional competition.
The winner, Nick Quinn, jumped 1.93 m (just over 6-3).
Mecklenburg was the Class 4A state runner-up in the event in May.
He cleared 6-4 in that event.
He won the regional championship leading up to the event by jumping the same height.
