Hennessey’s Kendyll Miller’s performance in the breakaway at the Oklahoma Junior High School Rodeo Association’s state finals held late May in Chickasha solidified her spot as the season champion.
Miller had a time of 3.420 to finish just behind Sage McLain of Welsh and finish as the runner-up in the state finals event.
She earned nine points for her finish, which further cemented her atop the season’s point standings.
Miller was the overall season state champion with 123 points.
Riding her horse Peanut, Miller was the only junior high girls roper to finish with more than 100 points during the season.
She won a championship belt buckle and a certificate to order the saddle of her choice.
The daughter of Darren Miller and the late Lori Miller, Kendyll will compete June 20-26 at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Des Moines, Iowa.
The breakaway competition in the rodeo will include the top-four ropers from every state as well as five provinces in Canada and ropers from Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
In OJHSRA events in 2021 alone, Miller won three times and had two more third-place finishes. She won two Border Bash events in Guthrie as well as at Thomas.
Miller will be a freshman in the fall at Epic Charter Schools. She said she plans to become an equine therapist.
