Midwest City pulls off late rally, defeats KHS in 89er tournament
Kingfisher rang up a 2-1-1 record last week in the Guthrie 89’er Invitational as it nears the end of the regular season.
The Jackets hosted half of the tournament, which concluded Saturday with a 7-6 home loss to Midwest City.
The Bombers earned the win with a four-run top of the seventh inning that included a three-run homer by DeAngelo Irvin Jr.
The bomb was preceded by a single and two KHS errors.
Cade Stephenson managed a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh, but the Jackets couldn’t capitalize.
The Jackets led 6-1 in the game when Stephenson scored on Tate Barton’s sacrifice bunt.
The Bombers scored a run in each the fifth and sixth innings to pull within 6-3.
The Jackets got up early on Stephenson’s solo homer in the first.
It grew to 4-0 in the second on Mason Snider’s two-run single and Brady Friesen’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Barton’s fielder’s choice bunt in the third scored two runs to give KHS its fiverun advantage.
Stephenson was 2 for 3 and scored twice.
Barton and Snider had two RBIs apiece.
Friesen was leading comfortably until the seventh, but was dealt the loss.
He gave up nine hits and four earned runs.
The left-hander struck out nine while walking just one Bomber in his seven innings.
The Jackets erased a late deficit in Thursday’s 8-7 win over Duncan.
Down 7-5, Tate Taylor’s RBI groundout pulled the Jackets within a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Stephenson’s at-bat produced one run when Caleb Dick scored on a wild pitch and then the go-ahead run when he singled home Taylor.
Stephenson, Daugherty and Will Taylor collected two hits apiece.
Stephenson drove in two and scored twice, as did Tate Taylor.
Mason Snider got the win with five innings of work. He gave up five earned runs and struck out three.
Tate Taylor earned the save with his inning of work.
The time limit ended Kingfisher and Carl Albert’s game Thursday at 5-5.
Down two runs, KHS tied it in the bottom of the fourth when Dick walked with the bases loaded.
Will Taylor preceded that with an RBI single.
T.J. Parker threw six innings, gave up eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four.
He also had two hits and scored twice while driving in a run.
Dick and Will Taylor drove in two runs apiece.
Before the rains hit Friday, Kingfisher got a seven-run sixth inning to defeat Ponca City 11-3.
With his team up 4-3, Snider gave the Jackets an RBI double to start the sixth inning scoring.
Later in the inning, Ian Daugherty brought two more runs across with his double for an 8-3 advantage.
Parker and Barton also collected RBIs in the inning.
Daugherty was 3 for 4 and drove in three runs.
Tate Taylor, Will Taylor and Snider had two hits apiece.
Parker drove in two runs.
James Perdue grabbed the win as he didn’t give up a run over the final two innings.
Perdue struck out one and allowed just one hit.
Tate Taylor threw five innings and struck out five while surrendering two earned runs.
