Trio of Wildcats bring home Hub City wrestling hardware

Progress is something Cashion wrestling coach Steven Wilson is looking for from his new program.
He and his wrestlers experienced some of it last weekend.
Three Wildcats took fourth place in their respective weight classes during the 2021 Hub City Classic Wrestling Tournament in Clinton.
Bringing home medals were Dalen Stockton at 145 pounds, Jayce Evans at 138 and Jaiden Miller at 132.
Miller dropped his opening match, but came back to get wins over Billy Scott of Cordell and Alex Staats of Woodward before losing in the third-place match.
Both losses were to Ethan Snyder of Wood-ward.
Evans earned a spot in the 138-pound semifinal when he pinned Hinton’s Trevor Rodman at 2:51 of their quarterfinal.
However, Evans ran into Clinton’s Aaron Seabolt, the eventual champ, and was defeated by technical fall.
In the third place match, Geary’s Michael Blackcrow got the best of Evans with a fall at 1:46.
Stockton earned a bye into his 145-pound semifinal against Marlow’s Bryson Hughes.
Hughes pinned Stockton at 1:18 and went on to win the weight class.
Stockton came back to beat Geary’s Wyatt King, 7-4, in the consolation semifinals.
In the bronze medal match, however, he was outlasted 10-6 by Woodward’s Denzal Emery.
Cashion scored 21 team points, good for 11th place out of 17 teams.
Though their action has been limited this season, it’s the first time Cashion wrestlers have brought home hardware from a tournament.
“They’ve been working hard and have continued to improve although we haven’t had a lot of practice time,” Wilson said of his group.
“So it’s great to see them go out on the mat and be rewarded for the work they’ve put in. I know they’ll only continue to get better.”
