Okarche girls grab big win at 2A #9 Am-Po
Okarche got its second straight win over a top-10 foe.
Now, with its final regular season game, the Lady Warriors can also wrap up another title.
Okarche’s offense finally came alive in the fourth quarter as it defeated Class 2A No. 9 Amber-Pocasset 38-35 on the road last Friday.
Down by seven points after scoring just 22 points through three quarters, Okarche outscored Am-Po 16-6 in the fourth.
Madison Owens nailed two 3-pointers in the decisive frame for her only points of the game. Okarche also got six points from Rachel McDowell in the fourth.
It was Am-Po who con trolled the early goings.
After a tight first quarter, the Lady Panthers outscored Okarche 10-5 in the second quarter to take a six-point lead.
Part of that surge was two 3-pointers from Abbie Savage.
However, she didn’t score again and Am-Po had just five field goals the rest of the game.
On top of field goals from Owens and McDowell, Okarche also went 6 of 7 from the foul line in the fourth quarter.
Two of those makes came from Marlo Hunt, who kept Okarche afloat for the first three quarters.
She scored 14 points overall, 12 through the first three frames.
McDowell finished her night with 10 as Okarche upped its season record to 22-2.
The Lady Warriors capped their regular season Tuesday at Cashion (after press time). A win would secure them the Three Rivers Conference regular season title.
Am-Po pulls away from Warriors
Okarche couldn’t quite keep pace with Amber-Pocasset in its second straight road defeat.
The Panthers shot better than 50 percent from the floor and steadily pulled away from the Warriors through three quarters to eventually win 56-42.
Skyler Tampkins was the biggest culprit as he scored 30 points on 14 of 19 shooting.
That bolstered the home team’s totals as Am-Po shot 22 of 42 (52.4 percent) overall.
Okarche countered with 32.6 percent as it was led by Kaleb Harris, who scored 20.
The Warriors also got 11 points from Logan Kroener, but no other Warrior scored more than four points.
With the loss, Okarche’s season record sits at 13-11.
