Hennessey grabs road sweep over Harding Fine Arts
If the Hennessey boys basketball team is hitting from the 3-point line, the Eagles are tough to beat.
They displayed some of that early Tuesday in a 54-41 victory over Harding Fine Arts in Oklahoma City.
In building a 22-7 first-quarter lead, the Eagles buried six 3-point shots.
Cristian Rodriguez and Angel Rodriguez made two apiece while Juan Dominguez and Chris Tovar each added one.
Although Hennessey cooled off and Harding hung tough the rest of the way, the contest was all but over.
Hennessey made eight treys in all.
Three of them were by Cristian Rodriguez, who finished with nine points.
Angel Rodriguez led the team with 17 points while Dominguez scored 11.
The Eagles improved to 14-3 on the season with their fifth win in six games.
They ended the week ranked 12th in Class 3A.
Lady Eagles cruise early
Hennessey entered last Tuesday’s game at Harding Fine Arts having lost seven of its last nine games.
Working in the Lady Eagles’ favor? One of those wins was against Harding.
Make it another as Hennessey dominated the first half to cruise to a 50-30 victory.
The win upped the Lady Eagles’ season mark to 7-10.
It was decided early as five different Lady Eagles scored in the first quarter to take an 18-1 lead.
It swelled to 29-3 by halftime.
In all, 10 different Lady Eagles scored.
Gracie Mills led the balanced group with nine points. Harlee Dowell added eight while Noelle Pollard and Kassidy Amburn had seven apiece.
