Lady Jackets dominate Bethany, 58-31
Fresh off two games against top-five teams and with another on the horizon this weekend, the Kingfisher girls basketball team needed an easy night.
The Lady Jackets got it Tuesday at Bethany.
From opening tip until final buzzer, Kingfisher controlled the Lady Bronchos for a 58-31 win on the road.
“We needed a game like that,” coach Gerrett Spears said. “Especially with what we just went up against and what’s coming up Friday.”
The Lady Jackets were coming off consecutive losses.
One was to 4A No. 4 Weatherford in the finals of the Buckle of the Wheatbelt and the other at 2A No. 5 Dale last Friday.
Coming up Friday (after press time) is a trip to defending state champ and 4A No. 1 Anadarko.
Bethany offered relief as the Lady Bronchos had just two points in the first quarter before KHS built a 31-10 halftime lead.
Kingfisher led by as many as 34 points in the second half before Spears called off his Lady Jackets.
The Lady Jackets dominated every aspect of the contest. They shot 44 percent and held Bethany to 23 percent. That included the Lady Bronchos going 1 of 12 (8.3 percent) from 3-point range.
KHS also won the rebound battle 34-18 and had 15 steals.
Kingfisher made eight 3-pointers, four of them from the hot hand of Allison Green.
The sophomore had just one miss from long range and led the team with 14 points. Green also had a team-high five rebounds.
Rayland Garner contributed 11 points and three steals.
Melody Wilfong added nine points and Kina Frost eight.
The win upped Kingfisher’s record to 12-6.
