County Spring Livestock Show starts Saturday at fairgrounds

A total of 391 head of livestock have been entered in the 89th annual Kingfisher County Spring Livestock Show starting Saturday at the county fairgrounds in Kingfisher.

County Agricultural Educator Bryan Kennedy said the animals will be shown by 171 exhibitors, including county 4-H and FFA members and some younger exhibitors,\.

The livestock numbers include 83 cattle, 60 sheep, 27 goats and 220 hogs.

The youthful exhibitors have been feeding and grooming the prize animals for weeks or months so that they’ll look their best at the annual show.

Kennedy reminded that cattle will be entered on Saturday and show on Sunday. Other species will be entered on Sunday and show on Monday.

The annual bidders feed and premium auction will be held on Monday, Feb. 25, at the Exhibit Building at the fairgrounds, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Premiums on 100 head of livestock will be sold at the auction.

The annual events are sponsored by the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce, Kingfisher County commissioners and the Kingfisher County Fair Board.

There is no charge to attend and show officials urged adult residents to turn out and encourage the exhibitors.

The show schedule follows:

Saturday

10 a.m. – Fitting contest.

1 p.m. – All cattle in place and weigh in.

Sunday

12 noon – All swine, sheep and goats in place and weigh in.

3 p.m. Beef division judging: prospect steers, then market steers, then heifers.

Monday

8 a.m. – Swine judging.

1 p.m. – goat judging (wethers, then does). Judging starts at 1 p.m. or 30 minutes after conclusion of swine show.

3 p.m. – Sheep judging (wethers, then ewes). Judging begins at 3 p.m. or 30 minutes after conclusion of goat show.

Each species will be released upon conclusion of that species’ show.
