The eighth grade Kingfisher football team closed out its week on a positive note Thursday with a 38-6 victory at home against Perry.

Cade Covalt threw three touchdown passes, including a 45-yard strike to Jake Reagan on the first offensive snap of the game.

He later added a 12-yard TD pass to Gatlin Dallas and an 8-yard strike to Reagan.

In between, the Jackets got a 40-yard touchdown run from Etahn Karcher and a 55-yard scamper from Kale Hart.

Coach Doug Jech praised the offensive line play of Isaiah Logan, Cy Jones, Trevor States and Harley Hux and the added blocking of Dallas and Tanner Parker.

Jech also said Gant Browning stood out on the defensive side of the ball.

The eighth grade squad was defeated 16-8 Monday at Hennessey against the Eagles’ seventh and eighth grade team.

Covalt threw a 60-yard touchdown pass to Ayden Varnell for Kingfisher’s lone score.

A late fumble set up Hennessey to score the game winner with 40 seconds remaining.

Kingfisher’s seventh grade suffered a 24-14 setback to the Maroons Thursday.

The Jackets fell behind 18-0 by halftime.

In the third, Paytun Burnham put Kingfisher on the board when he hit Colton Burns for a 12-yard touchdown.

Maddox Jarvis recovered the onside kick to get Kingfisher the ball back.

On the ensuing drive, Daniel Guerrero found Burnham for a 35-yard pass to set up Will Mercer’s 6-yard touchdown run.

Jech said Landon Rempe, Mason Alig, Guerrero and Gavin Davis were solid on the defensive side.
