Okarche boys nearly flawless in home win over Oklahoma Bible Academy

What happens when a team catches Okarche on a night the Warriors play with their usual fury…and shoot seemingly lights out?

You can ask Oklahoma Bible Academy.

The Trojans caught Okarche at its best last Thursday night and the result was a 99-24 victory that saw the home team pull way off the throttle in the second half.

Okarche had 20 points before three minutes had ticked off the clock.

By the time the first quarter buzzer mercilessly sounded, the Warriors had knocked down nine 3-pointers and scored 43 points.

They hardly slowed in the second half, making eight more treys and staking a 75-13 lead.

Okarche was 17 of 29 (58.6 percent) from 3-point range in the first half. The Warriors made 21 3-pointers in the game.

Hunter Mueggenborg drained 7 of his 10 3-point attempts for all of his gamehigh 21 points.

Easton Roby was 4 for 8 en route to 14 points. Jett Mueggenborg made three treys and scored 17.

Court Sumrall came off the bench to make 2 of 4 3-pointers and scored 10.

As Okarche made shots, OBA struggled to even cross half court. The Trojans had 27 turnovers, which led to 46 Okarche points.

What pleased coach Aaron West even more was Okarche’s unselfish play. The Warriors had 32 assists. Roby and Austin Pinkerton led the way with five apiece.

“They shared the ball well, which is something we have been talking about,” West said. “If you can keep it hot, great shots will happen.

“The ‘one more’ (pass) is tough to guard.”

The win was Okarche’s first Three Rivers Conference matchup of the season.

The second came the next night when Okarche came back home from Fairview with a 93-54 victory.

This time, Okarche “only” made nine 3-pointers and shot just 27 percent from beyond the arc.

But they still had 26 team assists and forced 36 Fairview miscues.

Hunter Mueggenborg was dishing it out and scoring as he poured in 20 points to go with his 10 assists.

Jett Mueggenborg led all scorers with his 31-point performance. He also led the team with seven rebounds.

Roby added 18 points.

OBA closes strong to down Lady Warriors

Okarche led Class 2A’s eighth-ranked team for much of the night last Thursday.

But the Lady Warriors eventually ran out of gas in a 38-31 loss at home to Oklahoma Bible Academy.

Katie Parham sparked a 13-0 Okarche run in the first quarter that turned a 5-0 deficit into an eightpoint lead.

Parham had nine of those points.

Although the production slowed, Okarche still maintained its lead into the fourth quarter.

But the Lady Warriors had just one field goal in the final eight minutes - and just three in the second half - and were outscored 12-4.

OBA, the state runner- up in Class A last season, got six points out of Conley Cayot in that fourth quarter.

Cayot recently signed to play at Northwestern Oklahoma State and finished with 13 points.

Karson Jenkins added 10.

Parham led Okarche with 14 points. No other Lady Warrior was able to score more than four.

Okarche dropped a 51-33 decision Friday at Fairview.

The losses gave Okarche a 3-3 overall record and an 0-2 mark in Three Rivers Conference games.
