KHS downed in district road games
Weatherford avenges its only loss while Bethany completes season sweep
Kingfisher’s yo-yo up and down the District 4A-1 standings took a tumble last week.
The Lady Jackets went 1-2 for the week, but both defeats were to district foes as they fell 4-2 at Weatherford on Tuesday and then 10-3 at Bethany on Thursday.
The defeats dropped Kingfisher to 17-5 overall and 4-4 in the district.
With Thursday’s win, Bethany completed a season sweep of KHS and improved to 12-11 overall and 6-3 in the district.
Sitting as high as second in the district last week, Kingfisher is now down to fifth behind Weatherford (81), Elk City (5-2), Bethany and Woodward (5-3).
Kingfisher split with Elk City and Weatherford and has yet to play Woodward. Both of those games are slated this Thursday at Woodward.
The Lady Jackets spotted Bethany a 4-0 lead before trimming it to one run with a three-run fourth.
However, the Lady Bronchos bats stayed hot. They scored nine of their runs in the middle three innings.
Jadyn Barger was 3 for 4 and drove in four runs. Ireland Riley went 3 for 5 and scored twice and Madison Bibbs was 2 for 5 with a pair of runs.
Those three were the first three batters in Bethany’s lineup.
Kingfisher aided Bethany with a season-high eight errors.
That led to seven unearned runs off the right arm of Kinlee East, who pitched all seven innings for the Lady Jackets.
She gave up 11 hits, struck out two and walked three.
Down four runs, the Lady Jackets showed signs of life in the fourth.
East was hit by a pitch and scored on Addison Johnson’s RBI double.
Lily Voth pulled Kingfi sher within a run with her first home run of the season.
Despite Reese Roof singling and Kendall Farrar reaching on an error, Kingfisher couldn’t do more damage in the frame.
Three singles and two errors in the bottom of the frame allowed Bethany to extend its lead to 7-3.
Bethany scored three more in the fifth.
KHS had eight hits in the game. Johnson was the lone Lady Jacket with more than one as she went 2 for 4 with an RBI and run scored.
The week started with Monday’s 9-1 win over Chisholm at home in a non-district contest.
The Lady Jackets were scoreless in the first two innings, but Farrar put an end to that on the first pitch of the bottom of the third.
The freshman launched her third homer of the season over the left-field wall to kickstart a four-run frame.
The Lady Jackets produced 12 hits in the game, two each by Adlee Friesen, Addison Willson and Voth.
Friesen scored twice - as did East - while Willson scored once and drove in a run.
Seven different Lady Jackets had an RBI in the game.
East pitched the first three innings and gave up just one hit and struck out three.
Voth pitched the final four frames. She surrendered five hits and an earned run.
Weatherford was itching to avenge its lone loss of the season when KHS visited Tuesday.
Kingfisher downed the Lady Eagles 4-2 at home on Aug. 20.
Weatherford returned the favor Tuesday with its own 4-2 victory.
Marley Teasley wasted little time in igniting the home crowd as she led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run.
Voth settled in and allowed just one baserunner for the rest of the first inning all the way until the fourth.
Meanwhile, KHS took the lead with two runs in the third inning.
Farrar led off with a single and advanced to third on Friesen’s sacrifice bunt.
Farrar scored on a throwing error on the play to tie it up.
Garramone followed with a walk and advanced to third on East’s double, then scored with Addison Johnson’s hit.
That 2-1 lead stuck until Weatherford struck again in the fourth.
The Lady Eagles got two RBI singles on top of a KHS error to reclaim a 3-2 advantage. They added another RBI single in the sixth.
Like the fourth, that frame began with a Kingfi sher error.
After getting the lead in the fourth, Weatherford turned to Maci Thain, who didn’t allow a hit over the final three innings.
Kingfisher managed five hits off of Teasley, a Grand Canyon University commit, through her four innings. She did strikeout seven Lady Jackets and Thain struck out two.
Voth was saddled with the loss despite giving up just one earned run in five innings.
The KHS freshman scattered five hits and struck out four.
East pitched the sixth inning and didn’t surrender a run or a hit.
