Snodgrass PR’s, makes 800 final
Scout Snodgrass ran the best 800 meters of her life Monday.
She’ll need to do it again Wednesday to be an All-American.
The rising Kingfisher High School junior placed second in her heat Monday during the preliminary races of the 800 meter dash at the AAU Junior Olympic Games in Greensboro, N.C.
Snodgrass’ time of 2:18.15 was a new personal record, eclipsing the 2:18.21 she ran at the Class 4A state meet in May.
Her time was also the sixth-fastest overall among the 79 competitors who ran in six different heats.
The six heat winners plus the six next-fastest times advanced to the fi- nals, which were slated to be run on Wednesday (after press time of this edition).
Snodgrass’ time in the third heat was faster than the winners in the first and fourth heats.
Camryn Merryman, who beat Snodgrass in the third heat, had the fastest time of the day with a 2:15.78.
Only one other runner to finish second in a heat Dayshana Kellogg in Heat 2 - had a faster time than Snodgrass.
The top eight finishers in Wednesday’s finals will reach the medal stand and also earn the title of All-American.
Snodgrass will also run in the 400 meter dash prelims on Friday. The finals for that race are Saturday.
