Marsh puts on shooting display in Raider win
Lomega found a way to slow down Logan Sutherland.
Deer Creek-Lamont never could do the same with Ben Marsh - or the rest of the Raiders for that matter.
A scoring battle turned one-sided and so did the game as Lomega ran away from DCLA 97-54 Friday on the road.
The Raiders had a hard time stopping Sutherland early as the sophomore scored 17 points in the first half.
Still, it was nothing compared to the performance Marsh was providing those in attendance.
The Lomega junior scored 17 points - in the second quarter alone.
That was after already warming up with eight points in the first quarter.
Marsh made two 3-pointers in that opening period as Lomega got up 32-17.
He nailed five more treys in the second as the lead grew to 59-34.
But Marsh was far from acting alone.
Chase Burton made three 3-pointers in the first-quarter outburst while Traver Duffy added eight points and Lance Yost seven.
Yost kept it going in the second quarter with eight more points.
He finished with 15 in the half and 18 for the game.
Burton had four 3-pointers for his 12 points.
In the fourth, freshman Laken Lewallen came off the bench to keep the nets red-hot with three more 3-pointers and 13 points.
Meanwhile, Sutherland’s scoring slowed. The Raiders held him to six points in the second half, giving him 23 for the game.
All told, Lomega made 18 3-pointers.
Ten of those left the fingertips of Marsh.
He kept his hot hand in the third with three more treys and eight points.
The only person who kept Marsh from scoring was coach Justin Edsall, who didn’t play him - or most of the rest of the Raider starters - in the fourth quarter.
Marsh finished his night with 36 points in just three quarters.
The win pushed the Raiders to 10-6.
Lady Raiders win big
Despite being down two key players, Lomega had no problems winning its 15th straight game.
The Lady Raiders could have picked their score Friday, but eased up in a 95-20 victory at Deer Creek-Lamont.
Lomega was without Chloe Meier, who is sidelined with a knee sprain, and Abby Swart, who was out due to illness.
It didn’t matter. The Lady Raiders led 16-0 after a quarter, then went on a 31-1 burst in the second.
Plenty of them picked up the scoring slack.
Bree Yost made three 3-pointers as part of the second-quarter run. The freshman had four in the game and led all scorers with 18.
Lomega made seven 3-pointers in that second quarter and 18 in the game.
Monse Rivera, Aliana Lawson, Claire Myers and Kate Myers each made one in the second quarter.
Lawson finished the game with 16 points and Rivera scored 12.
Paige Wheeler scored 11 of her 13 points in the first half while Jackie Penaran scored all 11 - including three 3-pointers - in the second half.
Hadley Ott just missed giving Lomega six players in double figures with her eight points.
The Lady Raiders moved to 15-1 with their win.
