Dover boys upset big comes up short
Lady Longhorns still undefeated
Dover held Pond Creek-Hunter to its lowest point total of the season, but fell short in handing the Panthers their first loss.
The Panther offense came alive just enough in the second half to pull out a 41-34 victory.
Ranked 20th in Class A, PC-H entered the night averaging 67 points a game, but Dover held the Panthers to 13 first-half points.
The offense couldn’t capitalize as Dover still trailed by a point.
Caden Tefft awoke in the third quarter and his trio of 3-pointers sparked a 13-8 Panther run.
Blayne Tefft then scored 10 in the fourth quarter to help offset four Dover 3-pointers.
The Longhorns had just two treys through three quarters, but Nate Cohee knocked down two in the fourth for his only points.
Casen Buck and Lucas Conrady also made 3-pointers in the fourth, but Dover couldn’t close the gap.
All of Blayne Tefft’s points came in the fourth and he led Pond Creek-Hunter (14-0) in scoring. Caden Tefft finished with nine, all in the third.
Dover, which dropped to 10-6, was led by Buck’s 13 points.
Conrady added 12.
Pond Creek-Hunter’s previous low point total this season was 52 points.
Lady Longhorns get 18-point victory
Dover’s march through the regular season with an unblemished mark took it to Pond Creek-Hunter on Friday.
The Lady Longhorns came back down U.S. Highway 81 with a 55-37 victory in tow.
A bulk of their lead was built early as four players paced a 24-7 spurt to start the game.
Katelyn Harviston scored 11 in the quarter while Karlee Harviston and Rylee Buck scored five apiece.
The Lady Panthers actually outscored Dover by five points over the next two quarters before Class B’s No. 1 team closed with a 14-9 run.
The Harvistons combined for 12 of those points.
Katelyn eventually led all scorers with 19 points.
Karlee scored 15. Buck, who made three 3-pointers scored 13 and Ashley Gamez finished her night with eight.
Dover was 16-0 after the win.
