Askey, Long finish strong at 4A state
Although there weren’t enough Kingfisher High School runners for a complete team, there was still representation at the Class 4A state meet.
Conner Askey and Wyatt Long earned their spots in Saturday’s finale at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
Askey finished strong to place 107th out of 163 competitors.
The junior crossed the finish line of the 5,000 meter course in 18:49.29.
Wyatt Long, a sophomore, was two spots behind Askey and finished in 18:51.54.
“They ran incredible races,” said coach Kerri Lafferty. “And their times reflected it.
“It’s tough seeing some of the more experienced runners pass you, but both of them stayed focused and competed. I’m very proud of the hard work and dedication they showed this year.”
Regent Prep’s Clay McKinney won the individual state title in 15:42.19 while Bethany claimed the team championship.
