KHS gets by stubborn Blanchard for 10th win
Kingfisher was never going to surrender its lead to Blanchard.
But the Lady Lions also were never going away.
KHS earned just enough breathing room down the stretch Tuesday for a 39-29 win at the APB.
The Lady Jackets made five of their six 3-pointers in the second half and limited Blanchard’s opportunities to earn the Western Conference win.
The victory pushed Kingfisher, ranked seventh in 4A, to 10-2 on the season.
A quick 5-0 burst by KHS forced a Blanchard timeout in the first quarter and that was enough to slow down the Lady Jackets.
The game played out like that the rest of the night.
The Lady Jackets never trailed, but each time they made a run, Blanchard had some form of answer.
It was 8-2 early in the first, but Blanchard cut it to 8-6 by the end of it.
The Lady Jackets were up five at halftime and 24-14 less than midway through the third when Addy Matthews hit a pair of 3-pointers and Peyton Walker nailed her second of the game.
But, again, Blanchard trimmed it back to five by the end of the frame.
Mya Dewberry scored five in the fourth quarter and Emily Myers joined her in knocking down a 3-pointer as KHS outscored Blanchard 12-7.
Matthews led KHS with 14 points.
Myers, Walker and Dewberry scored seven apiece.
Raegan Snider scored four points, but also had 10 rebounds and three assists.
Sadie Franklin scored nine to lead Blanchard, but was held to just two points in the second half.
