Dover could barely make a free throw in regulation. It couldn’t miss one in overtime. After letting a lead slip away, the Longhorns dominated Mulhall-Orlando in the extra frame Tuesday for a 49-42 road win.

The Longhorns were up 35-27 after three quarters, but managed just four points in the fourth.

That included going 0 for 2 from the foul line. Through the first four quarters, Dover went just 1 of 10.

However, they made all eight tries in overtime and outscored M-O 10-3.

Kolten Shaw went 4 for 4 and scored six in the extra period. Damion Turner and Pedro Valles also made both of their attempts.

“Our rebounding in OT also made a big difference in the outcome,” said Dover coach Aaron Norton, whose team moved to 2-1.

Up one at half, Dover outscored the Panthers 14-7 in the third quarter.

Shaw and Turner both made a 3-pointer and scored five points each in the frame.

Shaw finished with a game-high 23 points.

Turner scored nine.

Dover also got 13 points from Carlos Flores.

“He had a great night shooting the ball,” Norton said.

Flores nailed three 3-pointers and scored 11 of his points in the first half.

Dover girls erupt in 2nd half for lopsided victory

Matt Peck wasn’t happy with his team’s first two quarters.

The second half showed more of Dover’s potential.

Added together, the Lady Longhorns improved to 2-1 Tuesday with a 62-24 victory at Mulhall-Orlando.

“We just weren’t very good in the first half,” said Peck, the team’s first-year head coach.

Dover led just 21-14 at the break.

While Katelyn Harviston scored eight points in the first 16 minutes, no other Lady Longhorn had more than five.

Harviston kept up her pace in the second half, but got much more help.

Rylee Buck and Ashley Gamez combined for 12 points in the third as Dover more than doubled its first-half production with 23 points.

Buck had nine of her 11 points in the second half.

Gamez scored nine and Hadlee Bryan six.

Karlee Harviston added six of her 11 in the fourth quarter.

But it was Katelyn Harviston who was the steady force.

She added 11 to her total in the third quarter and six more in the fourth to finish with a game-high 25 points.

No Lady Panther reached double figures as Kaitlyn O’Neal led the team with nine.
