CCS overpowers Eagles, 38-13
Crossings Christian School attacked Hennessey with a seemingly never- ending supply of running backs and was able to limit the Eagles’ own offense Friday in a 38-13 win.
A week after the Eagles scored with a multitude of big plays against Mount St. Mary, they were held to 131 total yards, turned it over four times and gave up a safety against the Knights’ attack.
It was Hennessey that struck first as freshman quarterback Titan Hix capped a nine-play, 54-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 lead.
But Crossings answered with 29 straight points.
Nate Rouse threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as part of the run.
The Eagles tried to mount a comeback as Hix found Kevin Trillo for a 29-yard touchdown in the third quarter.
That pulled them within 29-13, but Hix was later sacked for a safety.
The hosts pulled further away with a 39-yard touchdown run by Jonah Neher.
He was one of three Knights to run for a touchdown.
Overall, five different CCS ball carriers had at least 33 rushing yards.
As a team, they netted 263 yards on 45 attempts.
Silas Ward led the way with 13 carries for 69 yards.
Hennessey netted just 11 yards rushing on 24 attempts and could find little offense outside of Hix.
He was 12 of 24 for 107 yards passing, but was also picked off twice.
He ran it 14 times for a net of 20 yards.
Trillo had three receptions for 41 yards. Weston Smith had four catches for 17 yards.
Hennessey (1-1) was led in tackles by Brandon Valles’ 10.
Jessin Hardin and Mauricio Valles had eight tackles apiece.
The Eagles return home Friday to take on Hinton, which is 2-0 after wins of 46-6 over Merritt last week and 27-0 against Snyder in Week 0.
