Burnham locks up conference golf title
Tristun Burnham became Kingfisher’s first conference champion in boys golf.
Burnham fired a 2-overpar 74 Wednesday to claim medalist honors at the Western Athletic Conference Boys Golf Tournament at Blanchard’s Winter Creek Golf & Country Club.
“Even though we haven’t been in the conference that long, it’s a great honor to be the first from your school to do something like that,” coach Chris Combs said.
Burnham’s round was two strokes better than Nathan Womack of Elk City and Connor Compton of Bethany.
Two other golfers shot 77s on the warm, windy day.
“He played great with the wind,” Combs said of the junior. “He played with a lot of confidence and putted much better.”
Burnham helped the Yellowjackets to a thirdplace finish in the team standings.
Bethany won the conference title with a 329. Tuttle was runner-up at 340.
KHS put up a 343.
Jax Sternberger and Cash Slezickey both shot 89 for the Jackets. They tied for 13th out of 60 individual golfers.
Blake Hill carded a 91 and Paytun Burnham a 94.
Myles Harrison played individually and shot a 96.
