Yellowjacket golfers prep for playoff run
Kingfisher on Monday got what it hopes is the first of two trips to Boiling Springs Golf Course.
The Yellowjackets’ golf team took second place in the Woodward High School Boys Golf Invitational.
KHS shot a 354 to finish four strokes behind the host school.
The tournament was played on the course that will host the Class 4A state tournament next month.
Cash Slezickey paced Kingfisher with an 85.
That placed him fourth overall.
Tristun Burnham was one shot back and took sixth individually.
Blake Hill carded a 90 while Jax Sternberger shot 93 and Paytun Burnham a 94.
The Jackets’ score was one stroke better than thirdplace Elk City.
Weatherford was fourth with a 381 while Guymon and Chickasha both shot 421.
In preparation for the playoffs, the Jackets last Thursday played in the 36- hole Husky Golf Classic at Lincoln West Golf Course in Oklahoma City.
KHS was 18th in the 21- team field, which consisted primarily of 6A schools.
Kingfisher opened with a 345, then closed with a 328 for a total of 673.
Norman North won the tournament with a 574. Jenks was second and 20 strokes back.
Tristun Burnham had rounds of 77 and 75 for a 152 total, which placed him in the top-30 of more than 110 golfers.
Sternberger and Slezickey both finished at 173.
Sternberger had rounds of 89 and 84. Slezickey shot a closing 85 after opening with an 88.
Hill had a 91 in the morning round, then came back with an 84 for a 175.
Paytun Burnham’s 92 and 91 gave him a 183.
Kingfisher will host a 4A regional, which will be 36 holes, on May 2.
The state tournament is 36 holes the first day followed by 18 the next.
