Rayland garners huge buckets
Senior delivers down the stretch in KHS win over No. 10 Bethany at Paycom
Bethany refused to go away, so Rayland Garner just made it happen.
Garner scored while being fouled on three straight possessions in the fourth quarter to help turn a narrow four-point lead into an eventual 60-49 win over No. 10 Bethany at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
Garner didn’t finish the three-point play on her first attempt, but did on the next two as No. 6 Kingfisher’s lead swelled to a dozen points.
In all, Garner scored 12 points in the fourth quarter.
She helped Kingfisher stay on top of the charging Lady Bronchos.
Their 6-foot freshman Keziah Lofton started the fourth with two straight buckets and fed Kateyn Donley for another as Bethany cut into its six-point deficit.
The Lady Jackets were also aided by Allison Green’s 3-pointer, but eventually the team went to Garner inside.
She got her buckets while being fouled by three different potential defenders.
The forward ended her night with 23 points and was 9 of 11 from the foul line.
Green scored eight in the fourth quarter as KHS outscored Bethany 21-16.
She finished with 15 points.
Green had her first seven points in the first quarter, the first of which was a 3-pointer beyond the NBA’s 3-point line.
She made two treys in the frame while Emily Myers added two more.
They helped KHS shrug off a slow offensive start to score 17 in the first.
Garner scored eight of the team’s 13 points in the second as the Lady Jackets led 30-24 at halftime.
The third quarter saw Addy Matthews knock down her two 3-pointers and score all eight of her points.
Myers also finished with eight for KHS.
Lofton scored 15 for Bethany while Donley added 12 and Avery Macrchio 10.
The win pushed Kingfisher to an 18-4 regular season record.
