Eagles extend win streak with pair of convincing wins
A pair of wins last week saw Hennessey push its win streak to four games.
The Eagles capped Three Rivers Conference play on Monday with a 60-28 win at home against Thomas.
They followed it up Thursday with a 76-39 victory over Blackwell at the Eagle Event Center.
The wins upped Hennessey’s overall record to 12-7. The Eagles were 4-3 in conference games.
Jael Torres scored 10 points as the Eagles got out to a 22-6 lead on Thomas in the first quarter.
Cristian Rodriguez and Layton Choate took over in the third as Hennessey went on a 17-7 run.
Rodriguez made two of his four 3-pointers and scored eight of the team’s points.
Choate scored seven more.
Rodriguez eventually led all scorers with 16 points.
Torres ended his night with 12 while Choate scored 11.
Torres led the team with 14 points against the Maroons.
He scored 10 of those in the first quarter.
The Eagles used a 28-10 run in the second to lead 50-20 at halftime.
Hennessey made eight 3-pointers, three each by Timmie Perry and Garret Vinson. Perry scored 13 and Vinson nine.
Hennessey also got 10 from Choate.
Free throws help Lady Eagles overcome Blackwell
Hennessey’s girls snapped a two-game skid on Thursday with a 68-47 win over visiting Blackwell.
The third quarter proved to be the decisive one.
Hennessey led by two at halftime, but went on a 16-4 burst in the third.
Blackwell led 18-13 after a quarter before Hennessey.
The Lady Eagles then started making frequent trips to the foul line.
Hennessey was 12 of 14 from the free throw line in the second as it scored 20 points to take the lead for good.
All told, the Lady Eagles were 32 of 41 at the charity stripe.
Juliana Macy led the team with 13 points.
Kassidy Amburn and Katie Kennedy scored 11 apiece while Larissa Macy made a trio of 3-pointers for her nine points.
The game came three days after a 53-24 home loss to Thomas.
The Lady Eagles were down just 8-6 after a quarter, but Thomas outscored them 43-12 over the next two.
Kennedy led Hennessey with 11 points.
The defeat gave the Lady Eagles a 1-6 Three Rivers Conference record.
Hennessey has a 6-13 overall record.
