Late surge vaults DHS girls to win
Thanks to a huge fourth-quarter outburst, Dover enters the 2022 playoffs with a bit of momentum.
The Lady Longhorns on Monday completed their regular season with a 58- 49 home win against Pioneer-Pleasant Vale.
They finished the year with an 18-7 record and have won three straight entering this weekend’s Class B district tournament.
However, the Lady Longhorns had to mount a comeback to maintain their momentum.
Pioneer led by seven points entering the final quarter before Dover erupted for a 26-10 run.
Kamree McNulty scored 10 points in the fourth.
Karlee Harviston added seven and Katelyn Harviston five more as Dover caught up to - then pulled away from - the Lady Mustangs.
McNulty ended her night with 13 points.
Katelyn Harviston also scored 13.
Karlee Harviston scored 10.
Joi Caldwell helped keep Dover strong through the first three quarters.
She scored six in the first half and added a three-point play in the third.
Dover led by seven after the first, but trailed at the half after being outscored 18-9 in the second quarter.
Caldwell ended her night with 11 points.
She was one of five different Lady Longhorns to score a field goal in the fourth.
Dover was also 7 of 8 from the free throw line in the final eight minutes.
Mustangs take down Dover boys
Pioneer limited Dover to just eight points over the middle two quarters en route to a 42-28 road win on Monday.
The Longhorns trailed just 12-10 after the first, but their guests went on a 12-2 run to close out the half.
The Mustangs extended their lead to 15 points entering the fourth.
Dover was led by Dami-on Turner’s 13 points.
Kolten Shaw scored nine.
Dover ended its regular season with a 9-16 record.
The loss snapped a twogame win streak for the Longhorns.
