Maydonna States
Maydonna Goetzinger States was born Sept. 24, 1933, on a farm northwest of Dover to John P. and Ruth Gorrell Goetzinger and died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Ada.
She was 88. Maydonna attended all 12 years at Dover Schools and graduated in 1951.
She then attended Phillips University in Enid and graduated in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
She taught first grade at South Haven, Kan., for four years.
Maydonna married Joy Lynn “Joe” States at Dover on April 26, 1959.
They lived in the Dover area for the rest of their lives.
Maydonna taught first grade in Dover for one year, then became busy helping her husband farm and later taking care of their three children Mark, Keith, and Gregory.
She belonged to Dover Christian Church until she and her family moved to a farm northeast of Dover, and she became a member of Oak Grove Church.
She was soon asked to teach a children’s Sunday School class, which she did for many years.
Following the closure of Oak Grove Church, Maydonna attended Dover Christian Church as long as her health permitted.
She is survived by her three sons, Mark States, Keith States and Gregory States, all of Dover; in-laws Dene and Wanda States, Anna Faye States, Linda Olmstead, Melva Drury and husband Bill.
Maydonna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, John Wayne Geotzinger, one infant brother and inlaws Wanda Jean Cain and husband Gayle, Orlan and Norma States, Leo States and Gene Olmstead.
Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Dover Christian Church officiated by Jimmy Berkenbile. Burial followed at Lyon Valley Cemetery under the direction of Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Dover Christian Church with the funeral home serving as custodian of the fund.
