Yale louder: HENNESSEY SQUADS DOUBLE DIP!
Camdyn Richardson continued his torrid pace and it helped bring Hennessey another Yale Tournament championship.
The Hennessey senior followed up Thursday’s school-record 56-point performance with 37 in the semifinals and then another 21 in the championship.
Richardson averaged 38 points over the three days.
The title game saw the Eagles down Davenport 64-57.
As he did the first two days, Richardson had a big first half.
He scored 16 points as the Eagles built up a 16-point lead.
But it was freshman Hagen Copeland who helped bring home the title.
The guard nailed three 3-pointers in the third quarter and another in the fourth.
He made six overall and scored a game-high 26 points to ensure Hennessey’s repeat title at the tournament.
The Eagles made 13 treys overall. Five came from Richardson while Gunnar Holder added two more. Holder scored seven in the championship while Beau Vinson contributed nine.
The second and third quarters saw Richardson provide significant output in Hennessey’s 73-55 victory over Yale on Friday.
Richardson scored 11 in the second and then 14 more in the third.
Hennessey built up a 20-point lead through those three frames.
Copeland scored 12 in that win while Holder chipped in 10.
Lady Eagles dominate over 3 days
The Hennessey Lady Eagles are getting healthy and their defense is coming around.
“We will start clicking once I get them all scoring together,” said coach Brian Richardson.
The two worlds collided at last week’s Yale Tournament as the Lady Eagles dominated three straight foes to claim the tournament championship.
That included a 50-20 victory over Sperry in the championship game one day after beating Pawnee 48-22 in the semifinals.
“We are playing well, but still aren’t quite there,” Richardson said after his team finished off its seventh win in eight games on Saturday to improve to 10-6.
The second and fourth quarters saw Hennessey dominate against Sperry.
Up one after a quarter, the Lady Eagles closed the first half on a 16-2 run.
Emma Copeland made two treys and Star Torres another during that run.
Hennessey was up 19 after three quarters before closing it out with a 14-3 spurt.
Six different Lady Eagles scored in that fourth quarter.
Copeland led the team with 12 points while Torres scored 11.
Katie Kennedy provided nine more.
Ally Painter scored eight points in the first quarter of the Lady Eagles’ semifinal win.
She was one of three Hennessey players to finish with 12 as she was joined by Copeland and Clare Munroe.
However, Richardson said it was Torres’ defense that sealed the win.
Torres held Pawnee’s 6-foot-1 post player to just two points, well below her season average.
