Wilcox realizes dream, signs with MACU
As far back as she can remember, Olivia Wilcox has wanted to play collegiate softball.
She took the next big step in that direction on Wednesday.
Wilcox signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career at Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City.
“It was an amazing feeling finally being able to sign that paper,” said the Kingfisher High School senior.
“I had wanted to play college ball every since I was a little girl.”
Wilcox is coming off a standout season in the circle and at the plate for KHS.
She threw 180 of Kingfisher’s 208 innings this season.
The right-hander only gave up 52 earned runs for a 2.60 ERA.
She struck out 204 batters while walking just 41. Opponents managed a .227 batting average against her.
Wilcox also led the team with a .381 batting average and was second on the team with 28 RBIs.
The Lady Jackets were 25-12, won the Tri-County Conference and hosted a bi-district for the first time.
Wilcox was named all-conference and all-district for her performances.
She’s joining a program coached by the legendary Robert Wakefield, who was at the signing ceremony held at the new KHS softball fieldhouse. “I in a lot of time and
“I put in a lot of time and practice to get to where I am and I could not be more thankful for the opportunity that coach Wakefield has given me,” she said.
Wilcox said she knew instantly that MACU was a good fit for her.
“As soon as I stepped foot on the campus, I knew it felt like home,” she said. “I love all the facilities and most importantly coach Wakefield. He has been very supportive during this whole process and I can’t wait to start the next chapter of my career there.”
Among the others on hand for the signing were KHS teammates; coaches Danny Green, Audra Smalley and Aniessa Edsall; and parents Jeff and Shanna Wilcox.
