Warriors continue dominant ways, unbeaten at the break
The lopsided wins continued for the Okarche boys basketball team as it heads into the holiday break undefeated.
Class A’s defending state champions beat Watonga 98-27 at home last Thursday, then hit the road Friday to collect a 90-18 victory over Seiling.
The wins moved the Warriors, ranked No. 1 in Class A, to 11-0 on the season.
They are currently averaging 91.9 points a game and beating foes by an average of 53.6 points.
The Warriors are 3-0 in Three Rivers Conference games after downing Watonga.
Like most other affairs, this one was over early.
The home team led 33-6 after a quarter and 65-10 at the break.
Watonga had no answer for Okarche’s relentless pressure, coughing up 33 turnovers.
They resulted in 41 Okarche points.
Jett Mueggenborg paced three Warriors in double figures.
The junior scored 25 points while shooting 11 of 18 from the field. He also had a game-high 14 rebounds.
Easton Roby was 4 of 6 from 3-point range as part of his 18 points.
Hunter Mueggenborg scored 10 and also had 10 assists.
Okarche made 12 3-pointers in the game. Court Sumrall had three of them for his nine points.
The Warriors shot it even better away from home on Friday as they went 15 of 30 from beyond the arc.
Hunter Mueggenborg, Jett Mueggenborg and Ethan Kirby made three apiece.
Jett Mueggenborg scored 20 while Kirby scored 18.
Hunter Mueggenborg contributed 14 points and seven assists.
Turnovers again played a huge role as Okarche scored 47 points off the Wildcats’ 31 miscues.
Okarche girls split matchups
The Lady Warriors went 1-1 in the two games and did pick up their first conference win.
They defeated Watonga 50-36 on Thursday before suffering a 70-32 setback at Seiling.
The latter contest came against Class A’s No. 1 team that’s won the last three Class A state championships.
Okarche’s defense was suffocating in the first half against Watonga as the Lady Eagles managed just five points.
That included an 11-0 run by Okarche in the second quarter as the Lady Warriors staked claim to a 24-5 lead.
Katie Parham played a big role in the offensive output with 15 of her gamehigh 20 points.
Watonga started to find its offensive groove in the second half, but not enough to make up the difference.
Callie Cramer delivered a big fourth quarter for Okarche as she scored 10 of her 14 points.
Kylie Harper added eight points for the Lady Warriors, who are 6-5 going into the holiday break.
