Treys help Eagles knock off Lindsay
Only four players scored for Hennessey during its Class 3A district championship.
That’s all that was needed.
The Eagles hit the road Friday, nailed nine 3-pointers and came home with a 50-44 win at Lindsay.
“We played really well,” said coach Brady Page after his team moved to 14-7. “Now we need to find a way to maintain it.”
Three Eagles combined to knock down the 3-pointer.
Five of them came from Timmie Perry.
The senior guard made one in each of the first three quarters as the Eagles incrementally built a threepoint lead.
He added two more in the fourth as they outscored Lindsay 13-8.
The treys accounted for all 15 of Perry’s points.
Cristian Rodriguez added three more and went 3 of 4 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and scored 13.
Layton Choate scored Hennessey’s other trey as part of his five points.
Jael Torres took care of things inside the arc.
The sophomore led the team with 17 points. He also made three of his four foul shots in the final frame as Hennessey held off the host Leopards.
Business picks up this week as the Eagles host No. 3 Alva in a regional winner’s bracket game.
The two play at 8:30 p.m. Friday before the remainder of the regional moves to Perry. The regional was moved back a day by the OSSAA due to potential inclement weather.
Lindsay slows down HHS momentum
Hennessey couldn’t maintain its hot start and is now one game from its season being over.
The Lady Eagles dropped their Class 3A district championship 39-23 at Lindsay on Friday.
Hennessey led 14-11 after a quarter, but managed just nine points the rest of the way.
Julianna Macy and Noelle Pollard both made 3-pointers as part of Hennessey’s big first quarter, one in which the Lady Eagles had four total field goals.
But Pollard’s 3-pointer and two-point bucket in the third quarter were Hennessey’s only other field goals over the final 24 minutes.
Pollard scored eight to lead the team. Macy finished with seven.
Hennessey hosts Blackwell at 4 p.m. Friday in a regional consolation contest.
The Lady Eagles (6- 15) have beaten Blackwell twice this season.
