Stroud no match for Cashion in Class 2A district matchups
Cashion finally came alive in the second quarter.
Once that happened, Stroud had no chance.
The Lady Wildcats on Saturday began their playoff quest with a 60-36 victory at home against Stroud in a 2A district championship.
The visitors led 10-9 after a quarter and pushed it to 16-11 in the second.
That’s when Cashion kicked it in.
The hosts went on 19-0 run to close the half and then scored the next seven points to start the third.
The 26 consecutive points gave Cashion a 37- 16 lead and the Lady Tigers never recovered.
Lauren Lamb led the way with 19 points.
Fellow senior Brook Shelly scored 16 more.
Cashion also got 14 points out of sophomore Lauren Jenkins and just missed on having four in double digits as Megan Shafer scored nine.
The win keeps Cashion, now 13-11 on the season, in the winner’s bracket entering this week’s regional.
Cashion hosts Pawnee at 7 p.m. Friday in a winner’s bracket game.
The game was originally scheduled Thursday, but the OSSAA has postponed playoff games due to potential inclement weather.
Wildcats dominate rare unranked foe
For the first time in five games, Cashion wasn’t playing a ranked team.
The score reflected it as the Wildcats started their trek toward what they hope is a third consecutive trip to the Class 2A state tournament.
It began Saturday with an 85-42 home win over Stroud in a district championship.
The next step is the regional, which will also be at Cashion.
The third-ranked Wildcats host Pawnee at 8:30 p.m. Friday in a winner’s bracket game.
Cashion wasted no time putting away Stroud as the Wildcats scored 29 points and led by 18 after just one quarter.
The lead swelled to 52- 17 by halftime.
The Wildcats shot 50 percent for the game and forced 26 Stroud turnovers.
Austin Frazier scored 18 and had eight rebounds.
Jonah Jenkins scored 17 points while Vance Raney added 14.
Raney made four of the team’s 10 3-pointers.
Drake Woody added three more for all nine of his points.
Landon LaGasse led the team with 10 rebounds.
Cashion enters the regional with a 19-5 mark and has won seven straight.
