Tough stretch for KHS
Kingfisher drops district games to Bridge Creek, Chickasha
A pair of early-week district losses further hampered Kingfisher’s efforts of potentially hosting a softball bi-district.
The Lady Jackets were dealt home defeats of 12-3 Monday against Bridge Creek and 15-0 Tuesday when Chickasha visited.
The losses dropped the Lady Jackets to 2-6 in District 4A-4. The top four teams in the district will host a bi-district once postseason play begins.
KHS currently sits in sixth place and was 9-9 overall after Tuesday.
The Lady Jackets had seven hits against Bridge Creek, but couldn’t slow down the Lady Bobcats’ offense.
The visitors pounded out 24 hits and collected 12 RBIs as a team.
Bridge Creek built an 8-0 lead through the top-half of the sixth.
The Lady Jackets tried to fight back in the bottom half of the frame.
Mya Dewberry had an RBI sacrifice fly and Merrin Evans followed with a tworun single.
However, Bridge Creek came right back with four runs in the seventh to ice the win.
Natalie Dick was 3 for 4 at the plate and scored one of Kingfisher’s runs.
Chickasha hammered out 19 hits to remain unbeaten in district play.
The Chicks were 8-0 in district games after the win and 14-2 overall. Newcastle (5-0) was the only other team without a district loss at press time.
The visitors erupted for six runs in each the fourth and fifth innings to enact the run rule.
KHS countered with four hits, one each by Dick, Brittany Willson, Evans and Taylor Mills.
Kingfisher began play Thursday in the Highway 81 Classic at Pioneer.
