Tigers cut down on turnovers to run down North Rock Creek
The turnovers were still present, but not as abundant.
The result in that reduction was Crescent’s first win of the season.
The Tigers ran for more than 300 yards Friday en route to a 30-12 win over North Rock Creek in Shawnee.
A week ago, Crescent fumbled it over to Hennessey five times in a 27- 14 loss.
This time around, Crescent put the ball on the ground four times, but only turned it over twice.
The Tigers also had four takeaways, including forcing three NRC fumbles.
In the midst of all that, Crescent dominated the line of scrimmage.
They ran it for 322 yards total and averaged 6.0 yards a carry.
Tayon Johnson had 125 yards on 15 carries, including a 39-yard scoring run in the first quarter.
Tanner Rice scored the Tigers next three TDs, all on the ground.
The quarterback had scoring scampers of 10 in the first quarter, 2 in the second and 9 in the fourth.
He ended his night with 86 yards on 12 attempts.
Crescent didn’t have a single passing yards, but attempted only two throws all night.
The Tigers also got 65 yards from CJ Wilson and 31 from Luke Descher.
On the other side, the Cougars couldn’t get anything going consistently.
They managed just 100 yards on 36 attempts and 86 through the air.
After Crescent got out to its 16-0 lead with 43 seconds left in the first quarter, the Cougars never got closer than 10 points.
Caleb Hawkins pulled the home team within 16-6 at 8:23 of the second quarter, but Rice’s second TD run of the night made it 24-6 at halftime.
The Cougars scored again late in the third, but Crescent capped the night with a TD early in the fourth.
Johnson added a teamhigh 12 tackles on defense, including two for a loss.
Neugent and Descher had seven tackles apiece.
Crescent (1-1) continues non-district play Friday with a road trip to Apache (0-2).
