Hinton locks down Eagles
Hinton shut down Hennessey’s offense and left Kingfisher County with its second win of the season.
The Eagles managed just three first downs and 30 yards of total offense last Friday during a 28-6 home loss.
The defeat dropped Hennessey to 1-1.
In the season-opening win against Crescent, Hennessey got five takeaways and was effective with its ground game.
Against Hinton, Hennessey forced two more fumbles, including one that was returned 69 yards for a touchdown by Keigen Crites.
However, that came near the end of the contest after the Comets had already dominated both lines of scrimmage.
Jake Wright ran for two touchdowns and the Comets got scoring runs from two others as they produced 220 yards and averaged 5 yards a carry.
Hennessey never mustered that kind of production.
The Eagles were held to five rushing yards and 25 through the air.
Hinton bottled up Crites, who was held to 13 yards on eight carries.
Juan Castanon led Hennessey’s defense with 20 tackles. Twelve were solo tackles.
The Eagles are off this week and travel Sept. 17 to Crooked Oak.
