Sims breaks out in Hennessey season opener
James Sims had a breakout performance in Hennessey’s season opener.
His coach said there could be more to come.
The junior recorded a double-double Tuesday as his team thumped Harding Fine Arts 82-20 at the Eagle Event Center.
Sims scored 26 points, including throwing down three dunks, and also had 11 rebounds.
He averaged about 5 points per game as a sophomore, but coach Brady Page is expecting more this season.
“He was sort of just one of our guys last year,” Page said. “But he’s really improved and I think he might be the best player in our (Three Rivers) conference now.” Sims did his work in just three quarters as the Eagles led 25-4 after one quarter and 50-12 by halftime.
He scored 14 points in the second quarter and another eight in the third.
It was Layton Choate lighting it up early.
Choate scored 11 of his 19 points in the first quarter.
The Eagles also got 10 points from Jael Torres and nine from Garrett Vinson.
