6 Eagle seniors grab all-district honors
All six Hennessey High School seniors were recognized when District 2A-1 football honors were announced.
The all-district teams and awards were voted on by the district’s coaches.
Among the honors was named Seth Simunek the offensive most valuable player.
Simunek caught 46 passes for 1,060 yards and 11 touchdowns during the 2022 season.
Other position player of the year honors were awarded to Langston Smith at tight end, Antonio Robles at offensive guard, Regan Sturgill at center, Brandon Valles at strong safety and Sebastian Gonzalez as a utility player.
Smith had 21 catches for 325 yards and five touchdowns.
Along with Robles and Sturgill, they helped block for an offense that produced more than 4,100 yards and 50 touchdowns in 11 games.
Gonzales did a bit of everything for the Eagles.
He passed for 85 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 168 yards and two scores and caught 17 passes for 154 yards and another touchdown.
He averaged 30.8 yards per punt and kicked 22 extra- points.
Defensively, he had 56 tackles and two sacks.
Valles led the team with 84 tackles. He had four sacks, picked off a pass and recovered two fumbles.
Hennessey finished the year 7-4 overall and advanced to the first round of the Class 2A playoffs.
The Eagles were 5-2 in district games, good for third place.
