Despite a heroic effort from Camdyn Richardson, Hennessey’s comeback bid fell short Tuesday against Crescent.

Richardson scored 37 points and the Eagles cut a 19-point halftime deficit to single digits, but Crescent eventually prevailed 70-61 at the Eagle Event Center.

It was Hennessey’s third straight loss overall as the Eagles fell to 3-4 on the season.

It was their second straight defeat coming back from the holiday break with the other being a 4638 setback to Tonkawa the previous Friday.

The last two games - and those for the rest of the season - were without senior Hunter Weber, who broke his ankle over the holiday break.

“That changed some things for us,” said firstyear coach Dallas Hunt.

Crescent, ranked 15th in Class 2A, made six firsthalf 3-pointers in building a 39-20 halftime lead.

Richardson had nine points at the break, but really turned it on for Hennessey in the second half.

The senior scored 12 of Hennessey’s 16 points in the third quarter as the Eagles cut their deficit by five points.

He carried the momentum into the fourth quarter, adding 16 more points.

Hennessey again outscored Crescent, but couldn’t close its gap completely.

Hagen Copeland scored seven of his 12 points in the fourth for Hennessey.

Crescent had four players reach double figures and was led by Travis Wolfe’s 18 points.

He made five of Crescent’s 10 total 3-pointers in the game.

Lady Eagles getting healthier, better

Hennessey is starting to get healthy and that’s got the coach feeling better about his team.

The Lady Eagles downed Crescent 49-30 Tuesday at the Eagle Event Center to give them their second straight win since returning from the Christmas break.

The first was a 44-33 victory the previous Friday against Tonkawa.

That game saw Katie Kennedy make her first appearance of the season.

She delivered 13 points in the first quarter and ended the night with a gamehigh 20.

Crescent rewarded her with employing a box-andone defense and chasing Kennedy all over the floor.

“She became the screener and the passer and it made some of our other girls step up and score,” said coach Brian Richardson.

One of them was sophomore Clare Munroe.

She was scoreless in the first quarter when Crescent staked a 10-6 lead.

Munroe scored six in the second quarter as Hennessey outscored its guests 15-10.

The Lady Eagles took command in the third with a 15-4 run and limited Crescent to just 10 second-half points.

Munroe scored 11 in the second half and 17 for the game.

Star Torres scored 11 while Emma Copeland and Ally Painter added seven apiece.

Hennessey is now 3-4 on the season, but for the first time, is fully healthy.

“Hopefully we can start heading in the right direction now that we have everyone,” said Richardson.
