Okarche handles Minco in conference sweep
Both Okarche and Minco scored 11 points in the first quarter. Okarche continued scoring in double figures.
Minco never did again. That saw the Lady Warriors win for the sixth time in seven games as they pulled away Friday for a 49-34 victory over the visiting Lady Bulldogs.
Okarche pushed its season record to 16-8 and evened its Three Rivers Conference mark at 3-3 with one game to play.
Laney Harris made two 3-pointers and scored nine points for Minco in the first quarter.
She didn’t score again in the game and the team mirrored that production as it struggled to put points on the board.
The Lady Warriors built a six-point halftime lead as Katie Parham, Scout Payne and Kate Baustert all made a 3-pointer in the second quarter and Callie Cramer added four points.
Cramer scored at least one field goal and at least three points in ever quarter.
She helped Okarche outscore Minco 13-8 in the third to extend its lead to 11 points.
Five different Lady Warriors scored in that quarter while only one Mayia Briscoe - scored all of Minco’s points.
Briscoe didn’t score in any other frame and no Lady Bulldog reached double figures.
Okarche got 17 points from Parham, who made a trio of treys in the contest.
She also scored at least three points in every quarter.
Cramer finished her night with 16.
Okarche boys within reach of perfect regular season
Five players reached double figures as Okarche got itself within one victory of a perfect regular season.
The Warriors overwhelmed Minco last Friday in a 99-52 home win.
It improved Class A’s top-ranked and defending state champs to 24-0 with one game left.
They played at Cashion on Tuesday (after press time). Both Cashion and Okarche entered the game with a 6-0 record in the Three Rivers Conference regular season.
Minco was that sixth victim for Okarche as the Warriors plastered 32 first-quarter points on the scoreboard and pushed it to 58 by the half.
They led by 22 points at the break and extended it to 36 points by the end of the third.
Along the way Okarche made 13 3-pointers.
Four came from Ethan Kirby, who came off the bench to notch 12 points.
Easton Roby added three of the treys and scored a game-high 27 points.
The junior also had five rebounds and four assists. Six other Okarche players made one 3-pointer each.
Jett Mueggenborg also reached double figures with his 15 points.
Hunter Mueggenborg scored 14 while Brett Carnott chipped in 11.
The Warriors limited the Bulldogs to 20 percent shooting (3 of 15) from 3-point range and forced 31 turnovers. Okarche scored 37 points off of those turnovers.
