Okarche girls eliminate Porter in Class A area
After losing in last Monday’s regional championship game, Okarche girls coach Brett Tahah said she fully expected her team to be playing three more games this week.
Step 1 of that was completed Thursday. The Lady Warriors kept their season going for at least one more day as they cruised past Porter 53-38 in a Class A consolation quarterfinal in Cleveland.
The win puts Okarche two shy of reaching the state tournament. They played in Friday’s consolation semifinal against Mooreland after press time of this edition. (Ed. note: See our Facebook page for results.) Okarche built a modest six-point lead in the first quarter, but broke it open in the second.
Callie Cramer made two 3-pointers and scored 10 points as Okarche went on a 17-7 run.
It was more of the same in the third quarter - except the scoring was more spread out - as Okarche had Porter doubled up 48-24 going into the fourth.
Cramer led the team with 13 points, all of it in the first half.
Katie Parham scored 12 points while Logan White scored six and Scout Payne five.
Porter’s season ended with an 18-10 record. The team was led by Remi Haworth’s 13 points.
Okarche, which forced 21 turnovers, moved into Friday with a 20-9 record.
